Judge orders recission of memo directing firing of probationary employees.
Just as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) began the process of firing hundreds of probationary workers today, U.S. District Judge William Alsup ordered the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to rescind memos that directed agencies to fire probationary employees, finding they were likely unlawful. Alsup said OPM had no authority to hire and fire employees within another agency. An evidentiary hearing is expected next month and the judge said he would release an opinion with further details in due course. This is just the latest in judicial rulings against Trump that have become more and more specific. So far, Trump has ignored any attempt by the judiciary to tell him what to do. What he will do in response to a Supreme Court ruling remains unclear but we should find out soon (see previous post). Read the story in The Hill.
